Lanyards
2021

Material:

6 Lanyards, 6 miniature portrait originals of the 15th to 17th century, 2 showcases of the museum, LED lights

The work was shown in the antiquities room of the Fasanerie Castle Museum in Eichenzell near Fulda,
Germany.

Every Lanyard had a sentimental advertising slogan on it:

Original:                                    Translation:

„Das einzig Wahre“         -     “The only Truth“

„Denken ist Handeln“     -     „Thinking is Acting“

„Part of Your World“

„Feel the Difference“

„Für dich das Beste“     -     “The Best for You"

„Mir geht‘s Gut“             -     „I‘m Good“

Miniature portraits like these were created especially from the 16th to the 19th century for the affluent class. They were used for private purposes, for example as souvenirs of loved ones or as gifts between lovers.

Lanyards are objects of the present, which are commonly used to display badges, tickets or ID cards for identification where security is required, such as businesses, corporations, hospitals, prisons, conventions, trade fairs, and backstage passes used in the entertainment industry.
Also they are also often used as advertising gifts.

While the miniature portraits were precious, unique and precisely made personal gifts, the lanyards are mass-produced items that are often given to people for free.
